Ever been in that situation where you don’t have a guitar tuner to tune up to concert pitch.

Here’s a trick I’ve used lots of times, I know it works in England, Germany and Holland because I’ve tried it in all three countries but I’m not sure about outside Europe.

Anyway all you have to do is lift the telephone off the receiver or switch it on, whatever so that you get the constant tone before you ring any number and put it to your ear.

The tone you will hear is 440 hertz which is a perfect A.

Just tune your A string to this and then tune the rest of the strings to your A string and all being good you should be tuned to concert pitch.
