My Music Part 2 – Look Don’t Touch
This was a song that started with the chorus line, it was buzzing around my head for a couple of weeks while I was walking the dogs so I decided to do something with it.
It’s a busy song for the guitars with lots of solo stuff and guitar riffs with a funk rock feel, Please excuse the vocals heehee (After all I Am a guitarist) but I tried and want to re-record them when I get the time.
The background vocals were sung by my wife Kim and the rest was just me.
For the musicians and technical geeks
This song was recorded on a Fostex D80 8 track hard disk recorder and the drums and keyboards were recorded on a Roland MC50 midi sequencer synchronized to the HD recorder via midi clock.
The Drums were programmed in step for step to get it as human sounding as I could and the sounds were taken from a Boss DR5 drum machine.
The guitars were recorded with the same setup asĀ usual using my W.S. Custom Guitar and Marshall Jmp1 pre amp straight into the mixing desk.
I used a wah wah pedal on the first solos to shape the tones slightly and the first part was just rapid picking mixed with a bit of whammy bar stuff.
The middle part was two guitars playing arpeggios in harmony and using the whammy bar (Tremolo arm) to create the sort of sliding effect and the short lick in between was tapped with the left hand while damping the strings near the head with my right (Arms Crossed ).
The last part of the first solo section was done by taping the notes with both hands on the neck.
The second solo section near the end was again done with both hands on the neck tapping the melody with the left hand playing on the B string and the right hand playing on the Top E and G strings.
